Listening to him was really painful. I'm watched some other stuff by him and it's okay, but even his band looked like "jesus dude, you're so fucking drunk that even we can't understand you. And we're irish."

To me, Shane McGowan is who he is. A notorious and sad drunkard, but he wrote some amazing songs and the Pogues recorded two absolutely definitive albums that will endure.

What really gets me about this is Kirsty. She was the daughter of Ewan, a wonderful UK singer/songwriter. She was killed saving her child from an oncoming speedboat while swimming in the Gulf of Mexico with her family.


Shane staggered on stage and many nights staggered off. But the Pogues live could be transcendant.
