Switching servers needn't cause downtime, though.
Drainstop Server A
Take Server A out of the cluster.
Put Server A-prime in the cluster and start it.
Repeat for all servers.
We do this at work all the time with no downtime at all. Oh well, I'm retard...er, retired anway.

Normally true, but we are talking 11 year old undocumented code that is unstable in the best of environments.
