Northern B.C. residents lose power in cold snap
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-columbia/story/2009/12/14/bc-tumbler-ridge-power-outage.html

minus 40 during the daylight hours... maybe...
was minus 53 which is the lowest setting I can read from my outdoor thermometer.
time to get a new one that goes lower I think! Idea
power was out for almost 15 hr's... was very nasty eye opener to me...
I've had snow on the ground here since Sept 30th and last winters thaw never finished till end may...
Spring was so late it killed my 2 trees in my front yard

what i wanna know is where's the global warming when you really need it?
and people think me a sceptic.

More than 2,400 residents of Tumbler Ridge had to endure a frigid Monday without electricity as temperatures in Northern B.C. plunged below -40 C.

The community lost power for more than 12 hours starting just after 4 a.m. PT. during the extreme cold snap, which was blasting B.C.'s far North, the central Interior and the Peace River District.

The power did finally come back on a few minutes after 5 p.m.

"My thermostat needle has dropped as far as it can drop inside the house," said Tumbler Ridge resident Frank Walsh in the middle of the day. "It's awfully close to freezing in my house, I do have a couple of frozen water lines.

Tumbler Ridge Mayor Larry White said officials opened an emergency social services centre for residents and firefighters were sent out to patrol local streets looking for anyone in distress.

BC Hydro crews said a problem at a substation caused the outage.
